Luveni Inspires Lekutu Students

More than 230 students of Lekutu Secondary School, Bua, were inspired by the Speaker of Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni during her visit yesterday.
The visit was part of the parliament bus community programme that kicked off at Solevu.
This was the first time for most students and teachers to meet Dr Luveni in person.
Dr Luveni explained the role of Parliament and her role as the Speaker and she took time to encourage the students to work hard and try to carve their names in history.
“During my school days, we used to write our names stylishly on books and also on desks and my principal back then told me something that I will never forget for the rest of my life, and that is, to carve my name in history and not on trees or books,” Dr Luveni said.
She said students needed to set their goals and work hard to achieve them.
Parliament makes laws and has an oversight role of how Government operates. Parliament sees that government officials are spending the budget allocated to them appropriately.”
Dr Luveni said her role was like a referee that made sure that both sides of the House played according to the rules and be impartial at all times.
Vice Principal Ekari Ciri said they were happy to have the Speaker visit.
“Today, has been a historic day for Lekutu Secondary School because we have the presence of the Speaker of Parliament gracing our school,” Mrs Ciri said.
She said it was also an historical one for the students and teachers.
“Judging from the programme and the way the students had listened attentively, they were excited to hear first-hand information from Madam herself, her roles and responsibilities and what she had to do when Parliament is in session.”
Year 9 student Elesi Sita was excited that Dr Luveni took time to talk to her and encourage her to achieve her goal.
“I’m so happy that Hon. Speaker took time to talk to me personally, out of all the students here, She told me to work hard and achieve my goal,” Elesi said.
Dr Luveni later visited Naikavaki College and was hosted in Bua Lomanikoro as well.
