The Telecom Fijiana side can qualify to take part in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
After winning the gold medal at the Pacific Games, coach Iliesa Tanivula is confident the Fijiana can join the Vodafone Fijian 7s and the Vodafone Fiji U-23 football team.
“It is exciting to see the men’s 7s rugby and soccer team has qualified and this has motivated the girls,”Tanivula said on arrival at Nadi International Airport yesterday.
The side will have two weeks rest and will return with the eyes focused on the Women’s Rugby Olympic qualifier in Auckland, New Zealand in November.
“We have just to work harder during the off-season.”
Women target qualifier
Team Fiji women basketball team now focus on the World Championship qualifiers.
“This was my third time to participate in the Pacific Games and happy for the result with the effort of the team,” said team captain Valerie Nainima.
“The competition was tough with all team and proud of the girls. It was a huge turnover with new players in the side and hopes to do better in the sport and we need to grow the quality of basketball,” she said.
The side will prepare for the FIBA Oceania Championship for Women in Melbourne, Australia in August.
Tulo aims for Rio Olympics
Winning four gold medals, weightlifting star Manueli Tulo plans to take part at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“It has been two year now I return to compete and winning four gold medals and I said before doing this for fun,” he said.
“There is another Olympic qualifying round in Houston, USA in November and hope to be part of it. Olympics is the pinnacle of all the sporting event.”
Meanwhile, grandmum Mere Rodan, 47 of the Para- table tennis returned with a gold medal.
“I’m delighted winning gold in the my debut,”Rodan said.
She hails from Koro, Lomaiviti, has six children and three grandchildren
