Eugene Vollmer was in tears after his final jump last night.

The former Marist Brothers High School won gold in the men’s triple jump event at Sir John Guise stadium.

Leading by example, the team captain jumped 15.27m.

“I have not been winning gold in the previous Pacific meet and now that I have won gold I feel so

emotional returning to the games and winning gold.

“I was in tears after my final jump and I want to give praises back to God,” he said.

Vollmer said it was a struggle to win a gold medal.

“The last three weeks I was struggling in Fiji training but we worked as a team and now when we go

back we will go and look at some weaknesses that we need to improve on.

“ I’m excited for the years to come,” he said.
