Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro stumbled a bit on the starting block during the 100metres final at Sir John Guise Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Bau, Tailevu native Banuve retained his title with a time of 10.55sec with Rodman Tetull of Palau winning silver clocking 10.98 sec and Kupun Wisil coming third with a time of 11.04 sec.
“I’m really happy with my performance, I stumbled a bit at the start but that is something we can polish up on later,” he said.
“The wind was not so favourable but we have to prepare for any condition,”
Meanwhile, in the women’s finals Fijian girls Younis Bese, Sisilia Seavula and Heleina Young provided a good challenge to PNG sprint queen Toea Wisil who won gold with a time of 11.86seconds.
Former St Joseph Secondary School student Seavula who also ran with Wisil in the heats and again in the final was excited with her new experience.
“I was excited to race with Toea it was a close race in the heats and then in the final.
“It was a good feeling racing with her and I can see exciting times ahead of me after this Pacific Games,” Seavula said.
