Xavier College Wins Quiz Final

Ba’s Xavier College was crowned the winner of University of Fiji/ McDonald’s sponsored Eco-Contest Competition 2015 at Saweni Campus, Lautoka.
The school walked away with a laptop, trophy and each team member won a cash prize of $250 for their effort in overcoming Sangam SKM College of Nadi 20-6 in the final of the competition on Tuesday.
SSKMC received a cash prize of $300 while each team members received $200 each.
In the semifinal Penang Sangam High School lost to Sangam SKM College (SSKMC) 8-12 while Xavier College beat Sabeto College 12- 2.
Uni Fiji marketing and public relations officer Shirley Sangita Prasad said, “Through this quiz competition we hope to create awareness on environment and natural resources as well as build strong collaborations and provide a platform for a healthy environment for competitions amongst our youngsters.”
The event was sponsored by McDonald’s Fiji this year for the second year in row.
“The University of Fiji is indebted to McDonald’s Fiji for their kind sponsorship and support. Eco-Contest is an annual event,” she added.
Ms Prasad said the number of participating schools had increased over the years and students have developed a strong liking for Eco-Contest.
“The teachers work hard and the team effort amongst the different schools have been enhanced over the years.”
The questions in the quiz are based on environmental issues, ecosystem, renewable energy, biodiversity, climate change and natural resources. Eight schools made it to the final pool rounds.
