Rapists For Life Sentence: Youth

A Davuilevu youth group member wants a life sentence for rapists in Fiji.
She proposed this during the Government’s National Development Plan public consultations at the Tuilovoni Methodist Church Hall at Davuilevu Housing on Wednesday.
“We do not condone rape or any type of abuse against women. What happened at Nakasi was uncalled for. We want rapists to get life sentences,” youth group member Talei Waibuta said.
Another pressing issue she wanted Government to look into was unemployment.
Ms Waibuta is student at the University of the South Pacific.
She said Government needed to look at employment and issue study opportunities for university graduates.
She said some university graduates remained unemployed so she proposed that the employment of graduates must be included in the five-year development plan.
She also proposed that Government offer overseas scholarships for further studies and employment.
“Overseas employments should be arranged and youths should be given small business grants.” She wanted Government to install streetlights at Davuilevu and for skills training to start from primary school level.
