Villagers Call For Improvement

Wailevu villagers in Macuata want improvements on their road, and access to electricity and water supply.
This was heard during the Government’s National Development Plan public consultations at their village on Wednesday night.
Most villagers called for developments in the village in the next five years to help improve their livelihoods.
Akanisi Toaleka, a villager, said they could not access proper electricity and water supply even though they live close to Labasa Town.
This was echoed by village headman, Senirusi Baleira.
“Electricity and water problems have always been our problem,” Mr Baleira said.
The villagers also called for better drainage.
“Our village is always boggy because there is no proper drainage work done in the village,” he said.
Another villager Alumita Tilu called for the improvement and tarsealing of road leading to the village.
“In this consultation, I want to raise that in the next 20 years development plan, we want the road to be tar-sealed,” Ms Tilu said.
Divisional planning officer northern Alipate Bolalevu praised the villagers for making use of the consultation to voice their concern and needs.
