Drug Bust Suspect In Court

A Fijian-born Australian citizen appeared at the Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday in relation to a drug bust case with street value worth F$6.5 million.
The suspect, Sosiceni Toa Junior, 31, appeared before Magistrate Mohammed Azhar charged with one count of Unlawful Transfer and Supply of Illicit Drugs.
The court heard that on July 10 the accused transited from Tonga with a visitor’s visa for four months. Between July 11 and July 13 the accused picked up a batch of methamphetamines which weighed 21.43 kilograms.
The 20 packages, which were found in the batch containing a pressure cooker, was received by the accused.
Police prosecutor Inspector Sunil Gosai applied for the case to be moved to the High Court.
The accused’s lawyer Kevueli Tunidau, asked the court to call the case in the High Court at the earliest date since his client has been in police custody for days.
Magistrate Azhar remanded the accused at the Natabua Corrections Centre to appear at the High Court in Lautoka on July 22.
Meanwhile, accused Number Two (aged 35) is still in Police custody as investigations continue.
