Fijian Pearls, PNG Final

The Fijian Pearls netball team will meet Papua New Guinea in the netball final at the Port Moresby Power Dome today.
The Kate Carpenter-coached side defeated Samoa 63-48 in a thrilling semifinal match later yesterday.
The Samoans defended well in the first three quarters of the match as they were able to hold the Fijian attacking line. Samoans with the inclusions of New Zealand-based players were tough in defence as they were able to hold the Fijians in a close score margin as Fijians led 38-32.
The Fijian defenders with the likes Episake Kahatoka, Matila Waqanidrola played well in their territory as they disrupted chances for the Samoan shooters. Fijian shooter Afa Rusivakula played an instrumental game in her shooting circles.
Team captain Mere Neiliko said it was a tough game but it was good to be winners.
“The girls played structured netball, Samoa came very close in that first three quarters but we managed to stick to our plan,” Neiliko said.
“We are urging for support from people back home especially their support through prayers.”
Fiji plays PNG at 3pm (Fiji) in the final today.
