Residents of Lajonia, Abua and Tiri settlements and Wailevu villagers are praising Government for the public consultations on the National Development Plans.

The consultation was held at St Augustine Primary School in Wailevu district outside Labasa Town last Friday.

The Ministry of Finance through the Department of Strategic Planning and National Development has been conducting a nation-wide consultations on the formulation of five-year and 20-year National Development Plans.

Former school principal, Chandar Dip said he found the Government consultations very useful in terms of people voicing out issues that affected them.

He said approach taken by Government of involving the people in their planning was the way to go.

“The views brought up during the consultations were good as these are the things that affect people living in this area,” Mr Dip said.

Area resident Raveen Kumar said the consultation was an eye-opener and it gave comfort to the residents of the area.

“People of the area will be relieved after voicing out their concerns,” Mr Kumar said.

He thanked the Government for coming down to the grassroots people.

Concerns raised during the consultation included cane access roads, water problems and land issues.

He said it was a great chance for him to speak out.
