The Dreketi football team will play in the Rewa Galaxy Premier League next season.

The was after the side drew 0-0 with Nasinu in the second round of Vanua Levu/Viti Levu playoff at Subrail Park.

The teams drew 2-2 in the first round in Suva and Dreketi won based on a home/away goal basis.

The match saw Nasinu bagging one yellow card while the home boys bagged two yellow cards and a red card to Dike Kalougata.

Dreketi couch Gordon Leewai said the team was very happy with the achievement.

“We’ve very happy, now that we have qualified to the Premier Division,” Leewai said.

He said the team was formed in 2013 while the Dreketi Football Association was formed in 1995. “Now the team is looking forward for the next season to play against the big teams.

Labasa coach Bal Sanju Reddy congratulated the team for the win.

“Congratulation to the Dreketi players for qualifying to the Premier division as now two teams in the North will feature in the division,” Reddy said.

He said the win means more local soccer tournaments for the North.

“Now with Dreketi qualifying to the premier division, this also means for Labasa to pull up their socks to in terms of performance.”

Labasa special administrator Vijay Chand said the win was a great achievement for the town.

“The win is big achievement for the town as we have two teams that will be featuring in the Premier division come next season,” Chand said.

He said with more tourneys taking place in the North, it would boost business in Vanua Levu.

Meanwhile, Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal said now that Dreketi has progressed to the Galaxy Premier League next season, this will be a boost for football in the North.

“It is a good thing they have qualified,” Pal said. “There are two teams representing the North in the Premier division now and it’s good for football in the North.

“This will be a boost for football in places like Dreketi and now it will compel other teams like Savusavu and other teams in the Premier division in the North to step up.

“Dreketi will be hosting their games at Subrail Park, Labasa because they do not have a home ground.”
