Asaeli Tamanitoakula, 60, of Raiwaqa Village in Sigatoka said he was now at ease after receiving a $1000-grant through the Government’s Micro and Small Business Grants Initiative.

He was among the 548 grant recipients who received their grant allocations from the Acting Prime Minister, and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, in Sigatoka last Saturday.

The father of four said the $1000 grant would be put to good use.

“I’m part of the Qereqere Village Participant Guarantee System (PGS) farmers group; we are a group of farmers who presently supply fresh tomatoes to the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa,” he said

“With my grant allocation, I plan to buy a tank to help me with my farming especially with irrigation, mostly in off season periods.”

“I’m very happy about receiving my grant allocation because my business is very small and still growing so I’m really pushing for quality tomatoes because I want my buyers to have the best,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bhan Wati, of Ulasila, Sigatoka, who is in her late 60s, has been providing for her family after losing her husband few years ago.

“Yes I am pleased to get this from Government because nothing like this happened under previous governments,” she said.

Ms Wati has four children and is living with her youngest daughter.

“I will be buying a few chickens and ducks to breed in the small space I have prepared,”she said.

“It’s something extra to assist in paying the bills, for me personally it’s a motivating factor for my grandchildren and I to make the most of Government’s assistance.”
