Work together to control infectious diseases in Fiji and the region, says the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Veena Bhatnagar.

She made the remark while officiating at the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network Regional Labnet/ Epinet meeting at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi yesterday.

“If it is at national level, we pursue the control of infectious diseases as a multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary effort and this should easily be translated to effective co-operation also at regional basis,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

The meeting addresses three very important areas – Preparedness, Capacity Building and Performance Indicators.

This is in regard to the monitoring and evaluation of the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN) functions and services.

She praised the work made by the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network since its inception in 1996.

“Working regionally in the true spirit of co-operation brings forth better results, whether be it in research or development because we can only do so much at national level including the control of communicable diseases and non-communicable diseases.

The three-day meeting ends tomorrow.
