The students and teachers of Nausori High School were excited when their school won the Central/Eastern division school energy saver competition for the first time.

They created a model on energy renewable where people can get their energy using natural source such as solar, wind and hydro.

The idea of the model came from teachers and the students.

The competition was organised by Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Department of Energy.

Nausori High School Year 12, Sidharth Lal said: “I am so excited that our school has won the Central/ Eastern division competition for the first time.

“It took us four weeks to prepare our model and our team had great support from the school,” he said.

Another team member Year 13 student Sonia Dutt shared similar sentiments.

Ms Dutt said: “The competition was tough and despite having financial problems, our school teacher supported us.”

The vice principal of Nausori High School Rajeshni Dutt said: “I am very happy that our school has won the competition.”

She said: “The students were trying all their best to win the competition and I am thankful to Arvindra Krishna for helping the student in preparing the model.”

Nausori High School Technical Drawing teacher Arvindra Krishna was impressed with the student.

“This is a very proud moment for the school and the students,” Mr Krishna said.

“The students really worked hard and they stayed after school to work on the model.”

There were four students in the group and they won $100 and a tablet each.

The Central/Eastern Division competition was held at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School on May 25.

It included poster, essay and model categories.

The national winner of this competition is AD Patel College, Nadi Sangam SKM on second position and Penang Sangam High School on third position.
