The Suva Madhar Sangam Association, the mothers club of the Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam (TISI) at Samabula, Suva, on Sunday hosted dinner to some of the victims of Howell Road fire.

Twenty-five women led by association president Nirmala Sami hosted the victims at Suva Sangam School.

“This is one of our missions for assist those in need and give them every little help we can provide,” Ms Sami said.

“The families didn’t have anything left, so we provided them few things like a temporary shelter to live in until further arrangements can be done.”

Ms Sami said the association had offered temporary accommodation to three families (11 people) at the TISI building in Samabula.

“The Suva Madhar Sangam women came together to prepare a good meal for the fire victims. There are children who could go hungry but we have stepped in to help.”

One of the victims, Shivani Rai, a Year 9 student of Suva Sangam High School, thanked the mothers for assisting them.

“We had noodles during the day and I was hoping for a better meal when this kind invitation came. I am so happy and thankful for their kindness,” Rai said.

Vikash Raj, who has two children aged nine and six, meanwhile sought financial assistance from the Ministry of Education to help send his children to school.

“I am thankful to the India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam in Samabula for giving us shelter and helping us,” he said.
