Physical fitness is an essential factor in the Miss World Pageant, says reigning Miss World Fiji, Charlene Tafuna’i.

She was at the University of the South Pacific Basketball Gym yesterday along with this year’s 10 finalists who are vying for the Miss World Fiji title.

It was a sports day event hosted by the Petero Civoniceva Foundation where the finalists attended a fitness test called the beep test.

They were judged on their sporting abilities, endurance, strength, communication and teamwork and leadership.

Former Rugby league star Petero Civoniceva conducted the test.

Miss Tafuna’i said at the international level, a sports event was also important and those who passed that qualify in the top 25 finalists.

“It’s a strenuous task, but it is very important for this title and last year Miss World Miss South Africa won that title,” Miss Tafuna’I said.

“Aside from beauty with a purpose, physical and mental fitness are very important.”

Miss World Fiji director Lara Chung said they tried to teach what the international competition was all about.

“Miss World Fiji is not only about beauty with a purpose, it’s a lot more,” Ms Chung said.

“Physical fitness is a test whereby the girls are being judged on so many qualities like endurance, strength, communication and other skills.”

The Miss World Fiji Boot Camp which started on June 13 is about to come to an end with three days away from the finals.

“The result of the physical fitness will be revealed at the finals this weekend and so far the transformation of the girls has been amazing.

“The girls are doing their best, working really hard and we are glad to motivate them in every possible manner,” Ms Chung said.
