The parents, teachers and students of International School Suva (ISS) were excited when they gathered to witness the opening of their new $6.2-million building in Laucala Beach yesterday.

Former ISS council chairperson and managing director for Mark One Apparel, Mark Halabe said: “It was 2010 when my daughter became a boarder at ISS, then on my first visit to ISS I thought the school needed changes and when I became the chairperson of the council I wanted to make the school look more professional and improve the infrastructure after visiting private schools in Australia.

“We want to offer education in Suva for expatriates’ children at the same level they would get in their own country.

“I hope that local students would also come to ISS,” he said.

School principal Dr Anna Marsden said: “The whole school is extremely proud of the building; it’s a great day for us.

“We will be working on our school philosophy where we believe we have to work with students and try to do something that is out of ordinary,” she said.
