Qarani Jetty To Boost Economy

The Qarani Jetty in Gau, Lomaiviti, when completed in November will open up the economy of the island in a big way.

Commissioner Eastern Luke Moroivalu said consumer goods for local consumption would have easy access and development materials would be easily transported to the island.

“It will provide easy access for the people and more importantly it opens up the access to the market for local produce,” he said.

Mr Moroivalu said they would also have easy access to Government services on the island. “They will no longer be travelling around in the Government boats. Vehicles will be used instead.”

Future development for Gau

Speaking to the Fiji Sun before leaving for Lau yesterday, the Commissioner Eastern said a trading centre would be established beside the Qarani Jetty, which was similar to the Nabouwalu set-up.

“This will facilitate basic business services for the travellers.”

He said the landowners had willingly identified a suitable piece of land for this purpose.
