Marika Rodu is confident he is fielding the best team for 2015 INKK Battle of the Giants tournament next week.

The Rewa coach felt the inclusion of Vodafone Fijian Under-23 and Under-20 reps Iosefo Verevou, Setareki Hughes, Tevita Waranaivalu, Garish Prasad and Savenaca Nakalevu was a big boost.

“I am preparing these players for the last two years. Now with the inclusion of the U20 and U23 players it’s going to be the best that will represent Rewa in this tournament.

“I ask the fans to support and bless the team. Get behind the team as we wish to give them a good treat.”

Rodu was excited to have his national reps back from their historic outing at the recent 2015 Pacific Games and hoped for their full recovery.

“I welcome all of them back into the squad, but they have not been 100 per cent in our training.  Nakalevu has been sitting out since his return, Waranaivalu has a toe infection and Garish is also down.

“We’re hoping they’ll get enough rest and resume training and join the squad full time.”

Rodu said there was no guarantee the Delta Tigers would retain the title.

“Anything can happen in the competition, the tournament is tough and nothing can be taken for guarantee. All that I am confident about is that we are preparing well for our first game.

“Our mission is to successfully defend the B.O.G title but our objective is to win each game as it comes. So the pressure is on the first match against Ba.”

The Delta Tigers are pooled with Ba, Labasa and Nadroga.

“Rewa had a bitter experience the last time these four teams were pooled together in Nausori. In last year’s Fiji FACT, we lost to Labasa in the opening match 1-0 and further lost to Ba 2-0.

“We were just fortunate to win against Nadroga by 4-0 before we bowed out of the championship. This year we are looking forward to a better and improved performance against these teams.”

Rewa meets Ba in their first game at 7.30pm. next Friday followed by their match-up with Labasa at 7.30pm on Saturday and then they play their final pool game with Nadroga at 5.30pm on Sunday.
