Chinese Ministry Of Security Delegation Visits Police

China’s deputy director-general of International Co-operation at the Ministry of Public Security Yang Shaowen yesterday visited the Police Special Response Unit to view facilities and assistance given to the Fiji Police over the years in Nasinu.

Mr Shaowen was accompanied by a five- member delegation consisting of senior ministry officials from Beijing, China.

Since the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Police co-operation between China and Fiji in April 2011 the Fiji Police have receiving various forms of assistance in terms of training, development and capacity-building.

Fiji Police’s director international relations ASP Ulaiasi Ravula said, “We endorsed the memorandum of understanding with China in 2011 and we have been co-operating in several areas.

“China has been assisting us in terms of capacity-building and our officers have been training in Beijing and other institutions in China,” ASP Ravula said.

He said the Fiji Police had also co-operated in terms of sharing information and changing borders.

“I am thankful to China because they have been our friends for the past years and they have been faithful to us,” he said.
