Republic of Fiji Military Forces recruit Timoci Tavusa fought back tears as he reminisced on his late father’s words during the passing-out parade at the Force Training Group (FTG) in Nasinu yesterday.

Mr Tavusa, 25, was among the 242 men and women that graduated after completing 12-weeks basic recruitment training. He lost his father, Sanaila Vesikula a week ago.

Mr Tavusa said he could only wish his father was around to watch his passing-out as a soldier. He said this was something his father had always wanted him to pursue.

“I also lost my mother 12 years ago and before coming here my father reminded me to work hard and think of my other two siblings who are still in school; when I received the bad news of his death last week, it wasn’t easy,” an emotional Mr Tavusa said.

“I didn’t accept the news because I was not expecting him to leave me when I’ve come this far doing what he wanted me to do. I wish so badly he was here today (yesterday).”

The Natuvu, Cakaudrove lad had to rush to hospital after the parade yesterday afternoon to take his late father’s body to their home in Tamavua. His father will be buried today.
