The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts is urging all parents, teachers and students to take pride in their education.

Opening the new kindergarten block at Nawai Public School compound in Nadroga, yesterday Mahendra Reddy said every child’s dream would be realised.

“Nation building starts from our school system and it is for this reason that the Bainimarama Government has decided that money will not be a compromising factor for educating our children,” he said.

“The Government has decided that education will be the key building block for building a peaceful and progressive society.

“The massive infrastructure that we have in the schools throughout the country, we better utilise it when it is not in operation after 4.30pm or during the weekend.”

Mr Reddy hopes that schools start to provide valued education on Saturdays for the students who could make it.

“By the end of 2017, we want every primary school in this country to have a kindergarten infrastructure,” he said.

He assured Fijians that all kindergartens in the country would have teachers who were qualified for Early Childhood Education.

The new block is worth $45,000, which took a year to complete through the assistance of many. Construction work was done through the assistance of Humanitarian Expenses for Youth Group from America. The tiling and painting works were carried out by Rustic Pathways from Momi in Nadi while Fairtrade and Lautoka Cane Producers Association provided the furniture.

Radisson Blu Resort Fiji through their adopted school programme supplied toys to the kindergarten, which can accommodate 30 students.

The students who have been using an old classroom will move to their new room from Monday. Meanwhile, the old classroom will be turned into a computer and library room for the primary school.

This new library and computer room will be made possible through Radisson Blu Resort Fiji and will be ready early next term.
