What happened:
Tavua outclassed Tailevu 23-10 in Round 10 of the Skipper Cup competition at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.
Tailevu started well, but Tavua slotted a penalty through Semisi Vauvau in the 17th minute.
Tailevu’s wing Josua Vici scored in the 23rd minute and was converted by Jone Qauqau for 7-3.
Seven minutes later Maika Balinaloto of Tailevu kicked a penalty for 10-3.
In the 32nd minute Tavua was awarded a penalty kick for 10-6. Two minutes later Vereimi Duvaga of Tavua scored a try which was converted by Vauvau for 13-10.
Halftime: Tavua 13- 10 Tailevu
Tavua extended the lead from a try to winger Waisake Gaugau, converted by Vauvau, 20-10.
They sealed their 23 -10 win after a penalty before fulltime.
Star turn: Tavua staged a good fightback to win.
Big play: Tailevu were good a times, but needed consistency.
Comments: Tavua coach Tupate Lawa: “I am happy. We needed this win to remain in the top eight. We will meet Macuata next.
Tailevu president Maika Rainima said: “Discipline and simple basic errors proved costly for the team.”
