Single mother Debbie Jack shed tears of joy after her only daughter, Brittany Hazelman, was crowned Miss World Fiji 2015 last Saturday night.

Miss Hazelman, out of the 10 finalists, was crowned at The Pearl South Pacific Resort at Pacific Harbour. She will represent Fiji in the Miss World Pageant in Sanya, China, in December.

Ms Jack said she never dreamt her daughter would one day be representing Fiji in an international pageant.

“I am really proud of her because entering pageants was just not her thing. I know that because she was always a tomboy and loves playing basketball,” Ms Jack said.

“When she told me she was asked to enter this competition, I was kind of blindsided by that news, but I supported her and she had worked so hard.”

Miss Hazelman is an information assistant at the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) in Suva.

Ms Jack said the competition provided her daughter with an opportunity to grow as a young woman.

“I was emotional because both my kids have been really strong for me for as much as I was for them.  I think this makes her even a stronger person and for us as a family,” she said.

She said she looked forward to helping her daughter prepare for the Miss World 2015 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China on December 19.
