The Vodafone Flying Fijians will need to work extra hard to contain a new and improved Japan side on Thursday in the World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup in Toronto, Canada.

Fitness is something that the Brave Blossoms will not need to worry about after a gruelling training camp that lasted three months and are using the PNC as a build up for the Rugby World Cup in England.

Team captain Michael Leitch, who has maternal links to Fiji, told Rugby News Japan this Japanese side is “five times fitter than the team that went to the 2011 RWC.”

After a disappointing 23-18 loss to the USA Eagles last Saturday, Japan will be hoping to turn their game around against the Flying Fijians in order to stand a chance to secure a spot in the final playoff.

The side will not only be boosted by the hunger to win but also to prove to coach Eddie Jones they have what it takes to fill up the remaining 11 positions on the squad going to the RWC.

Vodafone Flying Fijians head coach John McKee knows the mammoth task ahead of him and his players as the side failed to get four points in their game against a relentless Manu Samoa side.

McKee revealed this is a do-or-die game for the Fijians and said: “It is all on the line in this game for us as well as Japan. We need to win.”

Fiji is currently leading Pool 2 with seven points while USA is on five points.

If Fiji wins against Japan, it takes their total to 11 points and into the playoff for first place.

Fiji take on Japan at 10am (Fiji time) on Thursday at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.
