Our soldiers serving in the Golan Heights were told to keep in mind their duty as protectors of the Constitution, the country and its people.

The Minister for Immigration, National Security and Defence, Timoci Natuva, said it was imperative that they support the Government of the day and protect the country’s Constitution.

“Under the Constitution the overall responsibility of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces is to ensure at all times the security, defence and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians,” he said.

He said as soldiers they should at all times perform their roles enshrined in the Constitution.Under the constitution, he said there was also a chapter on immunity.

Mr Natuva said they should not forget the events of 2006, where the military took over leadership and put in place a new roadmap for Fiji.

He said the military took over leadership for a purpose and it had put that in place in the constitution.

He told the soldiers that Government critics and the Opposition in Parliament were trying their best to abrogate the current Constitution.

He said some former senior military officers were now in Parliament and urged them on to do their best to replace them so that they continue to watch closely the new roadmap.

Mr Natuva also told the soldiers of the many opportunities government had provided and urged them make good use.

“On education, it is Government’s aim to make Fiji an educated society. Send your children to school right up to tertiary level,” he said.

“They should be ready to take over leadership.”

Mr Natuva also attended the Sunday church service.

The Commissioner of Police, Ben Groenewald, and Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Land Force Commander, Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho, are accompanying Mr Natuva.
