It was a day of joy on Sunday for the many residents of the Babasiga Ashram Old People’s Home in Labasa.

At least six members of the Vishra Hindu Parishad (VHP) served lunch to the residents.

VHP Labasa president Asish Maharaj said the visit provided the group a chance to meet the residents and brighten their day by talking to them and sharing stories before serving lunch.

“We spent time with the residents at the home and had lunch together with the residents afterwards,” Mr Maharaj said.

“It is sad to see residents at the Home away from their families, and the staff was happy to have the opportunity to visit them.”

He believes children should not neglect their parents when they get old.

“We should be careful how we treat our parents because one day it will be our turn and may be our children will also leave us at some old people’s home and never bother to visit us,” he said.
