Don’t Parasail, Kitesurf Near Runways: Toursim call

International Airports Fiji Limited has expressed concerns that activities near Nadi Airport and other domestic aerodromes may endanger aircraft operations.
Under the Air Navigation Regulation 78 – No aerial device may be towed, flown, tethered or operated: Within 3 kilometre of a domestic aerodrome, within 5 kilometre on an international aerodrome and more than 200 feet or 61 metres above the earth.
Aerial device is defined as a balloon, glider, hand glider, powered or towed parachute, ultralight or microlight aircraft, tethered or towed kite, model aircraft, rocket or fire work display or any similar device.
The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association members should note that parasailing / kitesurfing is forbidden within 5 kilometre of Nadi International Airport.
This is specifically off the stretch of beaches fronting Fantasy Island, Wailoaloa and Naisoso Island.
Island Members should check if their recreational operations are close to an aerodrome.
Association members with private airstrips may wish to review their operational procedures to ensure that such recreational activities cease during aircraft operations.
Failure to comply may result in the vessel operator and or the captain fined up to $2000.00 and / or jailed up to 12 months for each incident.
