The Parliament’s Civic Education team is on the road again.

This time they were visiting Balata College in Tavua as part of their community outreach programme.

Principal Segran Pillay said the visit was encouraging for the students.

“This is the first time that a team from Parliament has visited our school. The students have learned a lot from the presentations. It was also well-presented and very informative,” he said.

“Parliament’s visit today is a ‘wake-up’ call for the school to arrange a trip to visit Parliament in Suva.”

Year 10 student, Samir Azam was excited to meet the team and learn new things about Parliament.

“Now, I am motivated to participate in the Youth Parliament and discuss youth issues where the Members of Parliament can take their cue from,” he said.

Headboy Anisheel Man said he knew little about Parliament but the programme gave him a wealth of knowledge.

“I am encouraged to study hard and hope to join parliament in future as a Member or a staff,” he said.

The team was led by manager Civic Education and Media, Vatimosi Delailovu. They will be at Tavualevu Village this evening. Similar programmes are scheduled this week in Ba and Tavua where the Speaker to Parliament, Dr Jiko Luveni, will be involved in.
