Jedi’s Stationary Suva, Shop N Save Lautoka from Group B and Fulton Hogan Hiways Labasa, 4R Electrical Ba from Group A are the top bets to qualify for the semifinals of the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.

Suva tops Group B with four points while Lautoka is in second position, while Group A Labasa is on top with four points.

Ba is second after the second round of matches at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Coaches are feeling the intensity of the tournament after two days of pool play.

Labasa coach Bal Sanju Reddy said this year’s tournament was the toughest.

The participation of players in the FIFA U20 World Cup and the recent Olympic qualification of the national U23 team lifted the standard of the competition.

“In my 20 years of coaching, I have never seen the competition to be this tough in the B.O.G.,” Reddy said.

“Our local fans will benefit a lot and they will see top level performance in future.

“We are confident of qualifying for the semifinal and will do our best to win the tournament for the second time.”

Rewa coach Marika Rodu also shared similar sentiments.

“We are going for a win against Nadroga and to score more goals to qualify for the semifinal and defend our title,” Rodu said.

“I think the level of competition has really gone up and as a result it has taken its toll on the players.”

In the last day of play, Suva, Lautoka need a draw to qualify for the semifinal while Rewa needs to beat Nadroga by more than two goals and hope Labasa holds Ba scoreless to bundle the ‘Men in Black’ out of the tournament and qualify with Labasa to the semifinal.

TODAY: 11:30am Tailevu-Naitasiri-Nadi; 1:30pm Rewa-Nadroga; 3:30 Suva-Lautoka; 5:30pm Ba-Labasa.
