Various in-service primary school teachers organised an art exhibition showcasing diverse forms of indigenous art last Saturday at the Fiji National University (FNU) Lautoka Campus.

Art Education lecturer Neelam Singh said the event received overwhelming support from participants.

“It has set a benchmark for future students who are thinking of taking up this unit,” Ms Singh said.

“The exhibition featured indigenous art like wood and fruit carving, weaving, pottery and printing.”

Team Salusalu member and event publicity co-ordinator Ashneet Verma said the event allowed students to get involved with their culture.

“It was an opportunity also for invited guests to discover the richness of our unique culture,” Mr Verma said.

“This exhibition has also helped teachers to gather more ideas on enhancing teaching art as a curriculum in their schools and help students to display their artistic skills and talents.”
