That was the inspiring message echoed by Dr Jiko Luveni to the students of AD Patel College in Ba last week.

Attended by 640 students and 40 teachers, the college was fortunate to be the first school in the Western Division to host the ‘Meet the Speaker’ programme where Dr Luveni explained her role as the Speaker and the role of Parliament.

She encouraged the students to study hard and work towards becoming a Member of Parliament or the next Speaker to Parliament.

Principal Jalendra Prasad said the visit would go down in the school’s history books because it was the first time a Speaker visited the school.

“A lot of girls from the school have represented Fiji in the field of sports and hopefully one day they will represent their town as a Member of Parliament,” he said.

Dr Luveni also toured the school premises, guided by the school’s manager, Vinod Patel, who spoke at length about the activities undertaken by the school.

The Parliament’s civic education team had visited DAV College in Ba as well under their Parliament Bus programme.
