The onus is now for local teams to pay their players well and look after them well.

Vodafone Fijian Under-20 defender Kolinio Sivoki is likely to team up with Fijian professional footballer, Roy Krishna for the Wellington Phoenix in the A-League competition.

The Suva defender played well during the FIFA U20 World Cup and is one of the players identified by clubs overseas.

Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel said there were talks of Sivoki and some other players to play overseas.

“Sivoki is one of those players who are marked by the professional overseas clubs like Wellington Phoenix,” Patel said.

“We are working on Sivoki’s case and if he is successful, then he will join the Wellington Phoenix Academy.

“The U20 players at the moment have very bright future and the demand for local players are there,” Patel said.

“There are Australian clubs also  interested with our players.

Transfer Window

Meanwhile, players wishing to join other districts can do so when the Transfer Window opens next month.

Following Sunday’s last round of INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants (B.O.G) tournament pool matches, some district teams are worried over losing some players.

“It’s a bit of concern to us,” Rewa coach Marika Rodu said.

Rewa provided the majority of the players for the U20 and U23 teams.

“The onus is now for local teams to pay their players well and look after them well.”

Jack’s Nadi coach Kamal Swamy said they were playing the players well.

“We pay our players well and look after them.”

Nadroga FA president Vijay Singh said money was the crucial factor.

“The demand of our players since the World Cup participation is high and we are doing our best to keep them,” he said.
