The fruits of Government’s labour to foster development within local communities were evident at the Lawaki bakery.

Not only does it provide fresh baked bread for the village, it also supplies to schools and other villages in the area.

The Divisional Manager Central for Integrated Human Resources development Programme (IHRDP), Aslam Khan said: “The Lawaki bakery is centrally located and there is a high demand for bread in Lawaki Village.

“The Lawaki bakery not only supplies bread to nearby villages but schools as well. Projects as such these are beneficial towards the development of rural communities.

“The village will benefit when there is a high demand for bread and this means more income for the village,” he said.

Baker Anisa Biausese said the bakery was a voluntary project set up by the village.

“We are selling to earn money and this development will benefit our future generation,” she said.

The bakery has plans to pay for its voluntary bakers and replace the gas oven with an electric one to help reduce the cost of production.

Currently, there are six female bakers working voluntarily at the Lawaki bakery.

The project was funded by IHRDP and the cost to build the bakery was $79,042.62.
