Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has signed a consultancy contract with Opus International Consultants (Fiji) Limited.

This will enhance the knowledge of operations, repair, maintenance, and onsite problem-solving skills for WAF staff members,” WAF chief executive officer Opetaia  Ravai said.

The contract, signed by Mr Ravai and Opus International board members, Peter Mathewson and Paul Rooney, involves the upgrade and improvement of wastewater treatment capacity and the quality of the wastewater output (effluent) to meet the approved environmental standards for wastewater within the greater Suva area.

“The consultancy also covers training of WAF staff members for the effective and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plants in Kinoya,” he said.

The programme, for which of about $750,000 has been allocated, will also cater for the future increase in population, as outlined in the Asia Development Bank (ADB) Plan and the Wastewater Master Plan for the greater Suva area.

This is the second initiative that WAF and Opus have collaborated on this year, the first being the $800,000-plus New Zealand government-funded, water and wastewater services training modules to be delivered for 150 WAF employees.

Mr Ravai thanked Opus for their assistance in improving WAF’s services to the  people of Fiji.
