What happened:

The Jone Vesikula-captained 4R Electrical Ba are on track to win their 16th INKK Battle of the Giants title.

This was after the ‘Men in Black’ staged a great fightback to beat Jack’s Nadi 2-1 in extra time in the first semifinal at Govind Park, in Ba last night.

Ba will play the winner of the Suva-Rewa match, scheduled for 7pm today, in the final on Sunday at Ratu Cakobau Park.

After a scoreless first half, Munit Krishna of Nadi broke the deadlock in the 59th minute.

But with three minutes to fulltime, Ba’s Narendra Rao Junior scored the equaliser to force the teams to play extra time.

Both teams failed to find the mark in the first half but luck favour led Ba in the 5th minute of the second spell.

This was after Meli Codro was brought down in the box allowing Malakai Rakula to extend the lead and seal the win.

Star turn: Munit Krishna was instrumental in scoring for Nadi.

Big plays: Alvin Singh for masterminding the Ba’s last line of defence.

Comments

Ba captain Jone Vesikula: “We know Nadi will be tough to beat. But the boys never gave up and played to the last whistle. We did not lose hope as we stuck to our game plan. The vocal Ba crowd also gave us that extra energy to push on.”

Nadi Football president Navneeda Gounder: “It was a tough match. Defensively we did not play to plan but it was a good match witnessed by a good crowd.”
