What happened:

Rewa aim to retain their title against 4R Electric Ba in the final of the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants on Sunday at Ratu  Cakobau Park.

This was after the Delta Tigers defeated Jedi’s Stationery Suva 1-0 in Nausori last night.

Both teams started off slow with a few good chances at goal as Rewa came close a couple of times. Good level of football displayed with Rewa maintaining possession well making Suva goalkeeper  Ulaiasi Tamanisau to work extra hard.

In the 30th minute, Iosefo Verevou broke the deadlock when he netted a great goal. Power outage which lasted 20 minutes allowed the teams breathing space to recover.

At the restart of play, Suva’s Jale Dreloa earned himself a yellow card in the 39th minute.

Three minutes later, Rewa’s Saveneca Nakalevu received a yellow card giving Suva a free kick outside the box. But the capital side could not equalise.

Halftime: Rewa 1-0 Suva

Suva seemed to have settled more in the second spell, but rarely creating opportunities. Rewa, having more possessions, had numerous chances to extend their lead but lacked the finishing.

Suva struggled to create opportunities to strike back but Rewa goalkeeper /captain Simione Tamanisau was spot on in defence.

Star turn:

Iosefo Verevou was the hero of the match.

Big play:

Rewa was the better side playing good football.

Comments

Rewa coach Marika Rodu: “The boys did exceptionally well considering it was a tough game.

“But we came here and focused on winning and that’s exactly what we did. We had a lot of opportunities but we didn’t capitalise on them which is something we need to work on. But our game against Ba will be a really tough one and we will now focus on our preparation on that game.”

Jedi’s Suva coach Gurjit Singh: “The better team won, we didn’t start very well and we just couldn’t create the chances to score. Now we will focus on the IDC.”
