The Methodist Church in Fiji has received with sadness the news of the death of Reverend Josateki Koroi, who served as president of the church from 1987 to 1989.

Rev Koroi died on the afternoon of Friday, August 7 at his home in his village of Mavana on the island of Vanuabalavu. His funeral was conducted yesterday.

Church president Reverend Tevita Banivanua said Reverend Koroi was a man of strong Christian ethics and integrity and had always been a voice that spoke truth to power within and outside the church.

“He also designed the original “takia” logo for the church which carried us through the first 50 years of our being a self-governing church,” Rev Banivanua said.

“Despite the difficulties he faced in the church in the 1980s he remained committed to his call and we are grateful to God that we were able to restore the relationship through his induction of the late Rev Tuikilakila Waqairatu as president in 2013 and his participation and acceptance of reconciliation during our Golden Jubilee last year.

“Our condolences go to Radini and their family. They can have peace from the knowledge that God’s faithful servant is now with his Master.”
