Brothers Iosefo Verevou and Epeli Saukuru helped Rewa retain the 2015 INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants title yesterday.

Rewa defeated 4R Electrical Ba 2-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

What happened?

It was an energetic start to both teams as they braved the cold weather and wet and muddy ground conditions.

Ba had the early advantage in the game with more possession and shots at goal, but nothing positive came from their attempts.

Two corner kicks in the 18th minute by Tevita Waranaivalu deflected away by Ba defenders. In the 29th minute, Iosefo Verevou broke the deadlock.

Halftime: Rewa 1-0 Ba

A good start in the second spell by Ba applying pressure straight away on the Rewa defence hungry for the equaliser.

In the 61st  minute, Ba’s Abbu Zahid came close to equalising, but the ball hit the post. Alvin Singh copped a yellow card in the 70th minute with a foul on Rewa’s Setareki Hughes.

Nine minutes later Tevita Waranaivalu earned himself a yellow card with a foul on Ba’s Samuela Nabenia. Luck was not on Ba’s side with numerous chances to equalise but lacked finishing. In the 90th minute, Epeli Saukuru sealed the deal for Rewa, 2-0.

Star turn: Iosefo Verevou’s goal was the game changer because it gave Rewa the boost they needed.

Big play: Abbu Zahid’s attempt at goal in the 61st minute could have been the equalizer.

Comments: Rewa coach Marika Rodu, “It was important for us to win and the boys came into the game with the understanding of how crucial it was. We didn’t have a great start but our game plan was totally different from the one we had against Suva. I am overwhelmed and proud of the boys coming out and doing what we asked them to do.”

4R Electrical Ba secretary Iliyaz Khan, “We want to first of all thank the Almighty and we want to congratulate Rewa on a job well done. Though we lost, we are happy that we at least made it into the finals after so long. Now our focus is on the IDC.”
