After 37 years Ratu Kadavulevu School will meet Marist Brothers High School in the Coke Zero Deans final at the ANZ Stadium, Suva on Saturday.

The last time the two schools met in the final  was in 1978 where they drew 6-6.

Playing for RKS, Aporosa Duwai yesterday recalled how they reached the final in 1978.

“Luke Tubuna, Aciani Tamani, Aboramo Qio, Isei Tudreu, Aminiasi Tuidraki, Ilaisa Valevou, Ananaia Momo and Isireli Mokunitulevu are some of the players I can recall played for RKS that day,” Duwai said.

“The type of rugby we played back then is different.

“We beat Queen Victoria School in the semifinal and MBHS was the top team in the Southern Zone.

“In the final both schools played with a lot of fire and pride. We shared the trophy after a torrid encounter.

“Nowadays the students have a different mindset to the game, they have different techniques and play according to plan.

“I wish the team well, may the team win.”

RKS has won the trophy 20 times, drew five times..

MBHS first won the Deans Trophy in 1965.

The finals of the Coke Zero Deans will be held at the ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

Fixtures: U14 RKS-QVS, U15 MBHS-QVS, U16 LMS-QVS, U17 NATABUA-QVS, U19 Lomaivuna-RKS, U18 RKS-MBHS.
