The Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou hosted a lunch for Team Fiji athletes who took part in the Special Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.

Fiji won three gold medals, four silver and three bronze medals which is the most medals Fiji has won at an Olympic event.

Tuitubou said the achievements were a testament that anything was possible.

“You have all exceeded all our expectations and you deserve all our appreciation,” he said.

“You competed against 6500 athletes from 165 countries and you managed to overcome the obstacles that stood in your way.

“Each of you is a shining beacon for your colleagues and friends with special needs. “I want you all to hold your heads up high because you are indeed students with extraordinary abilities.

“You have each brought prestige and pride to the country, especially to your families and loved ones.

“You are testimonies and examples to your colleagues who have the dream to compete in the international sporting arena.

“You are indeed true ambassadors of the country and have showcased to the world that we in Fiji are united despite our cultural, religious, political and or physical differences,” he said.
