‘Fiji FA Needs Change’

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama believes there needs to be changes in Fiji Football.

Speaking to SUNsports in Canada Bainimarama gave his comments on the direction soccer is heading in the country.

“Fiji Under-23 made history yet the national men’s team is not doing well,” he said.

On a question if there needs to be changes with the FFA, the PM says “I think so,”.

Fiji is ranked 198th in the FIFA ranking below Samoa who ranks 197, Vanuatu sits in 196 and Solomon Islands in 191.

Flying Fijians

An upbeat, cheerful Prime Minister then talked of his World Cup Rugby Dream for the Flying Fijians starting next month.

“We will beat hosts England, Australia, Wales and Uruguay in Pool A,” he said.

“Then we will go on to obliterate teams to win it all.

“Fiji has great bunch of players and the coaching staff to pull the victory”.

Fiji and Tonga have leapfrogged Samoa in the international rugby rankings following the conclusion of the Pacific Nations Cup.

The Flying Fijians have moved up one place to ninth after beating Manu Samoa in last week’s final.

Tonga’s three-match winning streak to end the tournament has also seen them jump from 12th into the top ten, with Samoa slipping back two places to 11th.

Bainimarama told SUNsports that the country will be behind the players as they have always been.

“The Pacific Nations Cup support in Vancouver was huge and I as the president of FRU thank fans for rooting for their former country men”.

When asked if he had asked for RWC funding from private and business sector while in Canada, PM said he didn’t.

“No, it didn’t cross my mind. I should have said something,” he said with a smirk.
