SODELPA MPs Mull Over Scathing Report

SODELPA MPs and officials were last night studying a confidential report that makes scathing criticism of Ro Teimumu Kepa.
It has been circulated after an audit of the Opposition Office by some concerned and influential party members.
Ro Teimumu could not be reached to comment yesterday.
The Opposition Office has placed a ban on the Fiji Sun.
Ro Teimumu, the report says, with the advice of “her inner circle” which includes Opposition Whip Ratu Isoa Tikoca, administrators Laufitu Malani and Mick Beddoes, makes her decisions without consulting the caucus and in many occasions in the reversal after she has made a decision uses the caucus to rubber stamp it and include it in minutes.
Excerpts from the report: POST ELECTION
The party leader should have stepped down like president Silivenusi Waqausa. She did not consult management board before she appointed Biman Prasad, National Federation Party leader, chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.
A matanigasau was presented to Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu by Ro Teimumu, seeking forgiveness for her conduct.
Staff
The 10 staff at the Opposition office are paid salaries ranging from $9000 to $45,000.
Mick Beddoes earns $45,000, Laufitu Malani $36,000. Salaries and job descriptions were done without consultation of caucus and party
Media Releases
Opposition Office has contradicted stance of party
Richard Naidu
Appointment of Richard Naidu as the Leader of the Opposition nominee in Constitutional Services Commission was Ro Teimumu’s choice. It did not reflect consensus of caucus. Other names were put forward.
The type of leadership, the report says, has allowed:
- Supporters to show disaffection against the party
- The media to label SODELP MPs as opportunists and party executives as self-centred who use system for political gain
- PM Voreqe Bainimarama to label SODELPA as liars
