The Lautoka Sugar Mill is back to normalcy, says Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman Abdul Khan.

This was after the 12 Megawatt steam turbine generator that provided electricity required to operate the mill developed a major fault on Tuesday around 6am.

“Everything is back to normal now at the mill with the cane being crushed,” he said.

“The steam turbine faced a major fault. Then we had to bring the smaller one on line which is took one day for the set up, but it took time to find out first the problem,” Mr Khan explained.

Due to the closure cane lorries destined for the Lautoka mill were transferring loads of the harvested crop to the Rarawai mill in Ba.

He said the faulty was fixed late Wednesday night.

Mr Khan said Labasa and Penang mills are running fine.
