New Companies Act could be in place by January 1, 2016.

If things go as planned, the new Companies Act could be in place by January 1, 2016, says the Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted this during the Fiji Business Forum held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday.

“We have had a lot of questions asked on when will the new Companies Act will come into effect,” he said.

“The Companies Act has been approved by the Parliament and we are in the process of finalising regulations.

“One of the issues that have been identified is some of the forms that are part of the registration are not necessarily digital-friendly.

“We are working at the moment with the Asian Development Bank – to gather the drafts to ensure those forms becomes digital-friendly so you can then lodge those forms online.

“We don’t want the situation where we for example have the commencement of the Companies Act but don’t have this lined up.”
