What happened: After lapse of 10 years, Ratu Kadavulevu School won the 2015 Coke Zero Deans Under-18 Trophy title beating Marist Brothers High School 8-5 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

Assisted by former national 7s rep Nacanieli Saumi, RKS started well as they were able to maintain possession and put Marist under pressure.

The first penalty was converted by fullback Nailati Ukalele in the 5th minute.

Marist, on the other side, had the advantage in their forward pack which had the services of Kaliopasi Uluilakepa and Lionel Monua.

Winger Epeli Vakararawa scored the first try for Marist to lead 5-3 at halftime.

RKS regrouped in the second-half putting Marist under a lot of pressure after Uluilakepa was sin-binned.

The team from Delainakaikai maintained their cool, lifted intensity, executed well in the lineout  which enabled winger Mikaele Gukirewa to score to extend their lead 8-5.

At the sound of the hooter Marist made a turnover, drove towards the RKS 22metre line and was awarded a penalty to tie up the score. But the forwards opted a drive to the tryline which resulted in a turnover.

Big play:

RKS defence line deserves applaud as they stood strong in the dying minutes of play to deny Marist the try.

Star turn: A last minute turnover from the Kaunikuila side kept their hopes alive, but fell short in the end.

Comments

RKS head coach Epeli Vukivuki said: “We want to thank parents, old boys and supporters of the school and our principal for supporting our programme.

“This programme was designed by Naca Saumi. And for us our motivating factor was God. We really prepared this team spiritually and all glory goes back to Him.”
