A showdown is imminent between warring parties as a SODELPA Opposition row over a confidential report reaches crisis point.

One group, led by Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa, has gone into damage control by trying to throw cold water on the controversial report.

The rival group, spearheaded by outspoken lawyer and MP Mosese  Bulitavo wants the report discussed to ascertain the truth of its content because of serious issues raised in it .

The report written under the name Gaunavinaka is understood to be compiled by a group of concerned and influential party members who have accessed or been given Opposition’s confidential files which include bank statements.

The report is critical of the leadership of Ro Teimumu, others and  the Opposition Office. It highlighted that the Opposition lacked transparency and accountability and called for the resignation of Ro Teimumu and others.

It accused the Opposition Office of failing to consult party headquarters over major decisions.

The same concern was raised by SODELPA president Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu in his letter to Ro Teimumu on August 3.

Ratu Naiqama was disappointed with the Opposition response to the resignation of Mosese Tikoitoga as Commander of Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

The Ro Teimumu faction is saying that the report should be discarded because the author is a fictitious character.

Mr Bulitavu has emailed  her saying they should focus on the substance of the report not on the author because some allegations have serious implications.

Efforts by the Ro Teimumu Group to play down the report are seemingly not getting much traction. The voices of dissidents are getting louder and louder. An increasing number of SODELPA supporters are calling the Fiji Sun wanting to know the full content of the report.

Ro Teimumu skirts around the question when she tells another media that it’s all part of the democratic process and members are free to have their say.

She has  not addressed the content of the report which is  scathing and calls for heads to roll.

The report has had a significant impact on the work of the party. It is  understood that not many MPs supported a series of SODELPA Tailevu constituency meetings on Friday.

A planned trip to Beqa Island was cancelled.

It is believed that since the report was exposed by the Fiji Sun it has been haunting the Ro Teimumu group which according to the report includes Opposition Whip Ratu Isoa  Tikoca, office principal administration officer Mick Beddoes and his assistant Laufitu Malani.

The report is unlikely to go away until a proper inquiry by the SODELPA management is convened to discuss it and act on it.
