A large crowd braved the weather last Saturday and headed down to Furnival Park to witness the Methodist Church’s Festival of Praise through Hymns and Gifts.

The festival was also an opportunity for some churches to raise funds for their own activities by selling handicrafts and pre-cooked food including lovo packs at their stalls.

As such the members of the Caubati Methodist Church in Nasinu were fundraising to build a new church to cater for the fast growing population in Caubati Housing.

The church presently has around 300 members.

Caubati men’s fellowship committee member Sekove Bolatolu said they always celebrated Caubati Day every year on Fiji Day and the funds raised were used for the church’s expenses.

“In 2013, our church elders saw the growth in the number of members and they came up with the idea of raising funds for a new church,” he said.

Mr Bolatolu said Caubati had a lot of youths and the church had a responsibility in the lives of these youths.

“We do a lot of activities to keep the youth’s spiritual lives intact, like the MYF camp at Viwa in Tailevu last month,” he said.

Mr Bolatolu said their church won the Methodist singing competition back in 2006 and 2007 for Sunday School category and in 2007 and 2008 they also scooped top prize for Class 2.

“Our win in those years shows our dedication to the church and how much we want our youths to live and lead a spiritual life to become better leaders of the church,” he said.

He said building a new and bigger church meant a lot to them.
