Renuka Devi was praying that she would find her missing husband alive, after searching for him all weekend. However, all her dreams were crushed yesterday.

She was still coming to terms with the discovery of the body of her husband, Neel Kamal, 44. His body was on a bank of the Labasa River, near Wasavulu village yesterday. According to Ms Devi, a concrete block was tied to her husband.

“Who would want to hurt my husband as he was very kind, good personality and mingles well with people in the community,” she said through her tears.

“It is really painful as both my children are not with me. My daughter is working in Lautoka while my son behind bars at Vaturekuka Corrections facility.”

Ms Devi, a garment factory worker in Labasa, said her husband, a fisherman, had been missing since last Friday.

“When I came home, after work, my husband was not at home and I knew he went out fishing again in the river,” Ms Devi said.

She said when she called his mobile it was ringing inside the house.

“The neighbours also assured me that he went out fishing when they saw him walking towards the river with a sack at about 11am on Friday.”

Mr Kamal is survived by her two children and wife. Police are still investing the cause of death of Mr Kamal.
