Fiji Primary Schools Rugby union believes on the importance of  development of rugby in grass root level.

Following the completion of Day One of the 2015 Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby tournament yesterday FPSRU secretary Peni Bavia said students were now well versed with rugby.

“The consistency in coaching and training have been shown in the grounds today (yesterday) with the kids showcasing their very best talents in rugby,” Bavia said.

He said with the decrease in the number of districts participating this year students still made extra effort of making the event a successful one.

“Out of the 20 districts that participated last year only 17 districts showed up this year.

“The effort and their present here today (yesterday) has shown the love they have for rugby.

“We are glad that districts as far as Vanua Levu have made it to this three day event as well.

“Basic skills in rugby like passing, handling of balls and kicking have really improved judging the way they played today.

“Suva was the dominating school last year having won nearly every grades. Their performance here today is quiet promising but we cannot tell who will win as we have two more days of competition.

“Schools from the upper districts like Northland and schools from the neighbouring island like Vanua Levu have strong schools participating in this three day tournament as well.

“I must salute every coach and manager in developing the young ruggers in the place they are here today.”

The 2015 Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby quarter finals continues today at the ANZ Stadium, Buckhurst Park, and Bidesi Park.
